The Norwegian Maritime Authority is working with industry members to develop the use of hydrogen in maritime operations.
- According to NMA, hydrogen as a marine fuel is very viable as long as the process is properly organised.
- Projects at the NMA underway to develop new technology including challenging shipyards and technology companies to construct a hydrogen powered ferry.
- Overall safety requirements are just as high as they are for traditional oil-machinery says NMA so risk analysis and explosion analysis must be carried out to ensure its safe use.
