The Port of Long Beach, California, is to receive a grant to fund a demonstration project for zero-emissions cargo-handling equipment.
- California Energy Commission will invest US $9.7 million to the port to design and create 25 new or converted electric cargo handling vehicles for a 12-month demonstration period.
- Total cost of project is US $13.7 million and hopes to contribute towards the port’s aim of becoming a zero-emissions port.
- According to the port the project expects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1,323 tonnes and nitrogen oxides by 27 tonnes. Also expected to save 270,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
