Five of the European Union’s approved ship recycling yards have signed an agreement to establish the European Ship Recyclers Group.
- Port of Bordeaux (France), Galloo (Belgium), medegaarden (Denmark), Scheepssloperij Nederland (The Netherlands) and DDR (Spain) will operate under the flag of the International Ship Recycling Association.
- ESR Group Chairan Peter Wyntin says the first target will be to create awareness of the recycling capacity in Europe, which is over a million tonnes today.
- Group will speak as one towards the European Commission, who is in charge of implementing the new EU ship recycling regulation, and will aim to ensure member’s yards are top choice for ship owners looking to dismantle their ships.
