Shell Marine has unveiled Shell Argina and Shell Gadinia trunk piston oils for the medium-speed engine market, designed to offer extra protection from deposits and extend oil life.
- Newer engines that improve fuel economy and reduce costs require higher brake mean effective pressures and higher operating temperatures.
- This can increase the risk of rapid Base Number depletion and increased viscosity. Shells new oils are designed to address the fast oxidation and deposit formation that occurs as a result.
- Shell Gadania controls oil consumption in modern engines burning distillate fuels. Shell Argina S5 shows a 12.7% improvement in BN retention and 15-20% improvement in piston undercrown deposit thickness, according to Marcus Schaerer, Shell Marine Global Marketing Manager.
