Cargo ship, Seven Star, has reportedly been detained in Salerno, Italy, for carrying hazardous waste, according to Stepan Kotcherga, Second Officer working on dry cargo ships.
- Hazardous waste will be offloaded in the Italian port and the ship will be put under arrest.
- Vessel was due to call at the port of Oristano, Sardinia, but will remain in Salerno for the time being.
- According to reports, Italian authorities have been suspicious of scrap cargoes arriving at Sardinia for some time. There is uncertainty about what happens to them as Sardinia does not have waste processing or recycling facilities. It is expected that they are dumped illegally elsewhere or transhipped to other countries.
