Alfa Laval white paper addresses the concerns shipowners and operators have with complying with bilge water regulations.
- According to the paper there are a number of risks even with type approved systems.
- The white paper calls on the marine industry to review the current bilge water regulatory environment and evaluate test protocols that do not reflect actual operating conditions.
- One protocol requires the test to take place only for 2.5 hours and use a fluid mixture that contains fresh water, oil and one chemical at stable land facility. Bilgewater is actually treated continuously and contains a more complex chemical mixture.
