Alfa Laval to Launch New Range of SOx Scrubbers

Alfa Laval has announced that it will present a new marine scrubbers product line at the SMM exhibition, which is being held in Hamburg between September 6-9 2016.

The PureSOx Global scrubber has been developed specifically to meet the upcoming global 0.5% fuel sulphur content rules that will be coming into force in either 2020 or 2025.

The company says that another scrubber system, PureSOx Flex, will also be available and offers compliance at both the 0.5% global level and the 0.1% sulphur cap that is in force in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).

PureSox Global, PureSOx flex and PureSox ECA will be available in open-loop, closed-loop and hybrid configurations, with either a U-design or an inline I-design to fit space constraints onboard.

The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) next Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting, MEPC 70, that will be held between October 24 – 28, will take the decision on whether to implement the global sulphur cap in 2020 or whether to postpone it until 2025.
