APT Takes Delivery of LNG-Ready ECO Tanker

American Petroleum Tankers (APT) has taken delivery of its third ECO Class tanker that is hailed to be one of the most fuel-efficient and environmentally sound product tankers in the world.

The Garden State is the result of a contract between APT and General Dynamics NASSCO, which calls for the construction of five 50,000 DWT liquefied natural gas (LNG) conversion-ready product tankers.  All tankers will feature a new ECO design to drive fuel efficiency.

The tankers, which will be used to transport products such as petroleum to help fuel America’s businesses and homes, feature a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine and an optimised hull form, with dual-fuel capable auxiliary engines and come LNG conversion-ready to drive fuel efficiency and regulatory compliance in the future.

Furthermore, the Garden State and its sister ships are all aligned with the Jones Act, which requires ships that carry cargo between US ports to be built in US shipyards to protect hundreds of thousands of American jobs and almost US $100 billion in annual economic impact.

The ships were designed by DSEC, a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) of Busan, South Korea.
