American Petroleum Tankers’ fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG)-conversion-ready Jones Act tanker has completed its float-out.
Built by General Dynamics NASSCO, the Bay State is the fourth out of five 50,000 DWT LNG-conversion ready tankers that is to include dual-fuel capability with the ability to accommodate a future LNG gas fuel system. All ships are to include improved fuel efficiency designs using a G-series MAN ME slow speed main engine and an optimised hull form for maximum performance.
The Bay State and the other four ECO tankers are the first Jones Act fleet to obtain a PMA+ Notation, which refers to the ergonomics and safety design practises and arrangement of permanent access where allowable.
The ships are all designed by DSEC, a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) of Busan, South Korea.
The Bay State is to be christened at the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego on September 17.
