Atlantis Tanker Group has selected the Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) ballast water treatment system (BWTS) for ten of its ships.
The OBS BWTS is explosion proof (Ex)-approved and uses filtration and high dose UV irradiation to render marine organisms inactive. The system hold International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval and has gained United States Coast Guard (USCG) acceptance and system certification through DNV GL, BV, RMRS and CCS.
The system also meets the stringent Zone 1 ATEX requirements (taken from the French Appareils destinés à être utilisés en ATmosphères EXplosibles), making it suitable for on-board installation to a wide variety of tankers carrying flammable of explosive materials.
The first two BWTS are expected to be delivered in March and June this year for theAtlantis Augusta and Atlantis Alicante ships. The rest of the OBS Ex-approved systems will be delivered in 2018 and 2019 for retrofit on the existing fleet throughout 2019 and 2020.
