The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has released a marine notice that details the regulations of air emissions from ships.
- The notice is aimed at shipowners, masters and crews, giving them information on Annex VI of MARPOL, specifically sulphur oxides particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides.
- It outlays the difference in permitted emissions inside and outside of Emission Control Areas and other regulations elsewhere.
- The notice also briefly summarises the use of alternative methods to meet SOx emissions requirements, including the use of marine scrubbers and says that Australian vessel owners will need to acquire approval from AMSA.
