Bay Delta Maritime Omits Ballast Tanks To Futureproof Newbuild Vessel

A vessel that has been designed for Vessel Chartering LLC, a wholly owned division of Bay Delta Maritime, does not feature ballast tanks, a move taken by the company to futureproof against new ballast water treatment requirements that are on the horizon from the EPA and U.S. Coast Guard.

In lieu of ballast tanks the tug vessel will transfer fuel as necessary in order to maintain proper trim.

The vessel has been designed by Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and engineering firm, Jensen Maritime, is being built by JT Marine and is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2017.
