Becker Marine Barge to Provide LNG Shore Side Power

Following one year of successful service, Becker Marine Systems’ liquefied natural gas (LNG) hybrid barge, the Hummel, has contributed to air pollution reduction strategies at the Port of Hamburg.  It will now start to supply environmentally-friendly power to cruise ships during their port layovers.

It will supply low emission power to the AIDAsol cruise ship while in port as it enters its second season in Hamburg.

Becker Marine Systems’ LNG hybrid barge project that acts as a floating power plant will now see operations and product sales responsibilities go to Hybrid Port Energy, a subsidiary of Becker Marine.

Becker Marine Systems states that it would like to expand its LNG power provision services to the wider industry to include container ships, bulkers and tankers in addition to cruise ships, while discussions with the Port of Rotterdam for the implementation of another barge are already under way.
