BIMCO Releases Cyber Security Guidelines

13 Jan

BIMCO has launched a set of guidelines to help the industry prevent onboard cyber security incidents.

The cyber security guidelines, developed by BIMCO, CLIA, ICS, INTERCARGO and INTERTANKO and with additional support from other industry stakeholders, aim to provide the industry with comprehensive information on cyber security risks to help them take action to protect against major safety, environmental and commercial issues.

The guidelines will be regularly updated to ensure that shipping companies have access to the latest information at all times as cyber threats are constantly changing.

Angus Frew, Secretary General of BIMCO, commented: “BIMCO has led the way to identify potential cyber vulnerabilities for ships – and their implications – based on the latest expert research.  The guidelines launched today should help companies take a risk-based approach to cyber security that is specific to their business and the ships they operate.”
