Bureau Veritas grants Approval in Principle for MOL

Press Release: Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification, has granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for the basic design of a ship OT/IT (operational technology and information technology) architecture with cyber resilience measures.

With this AiP, Bureau Veritas recognizes that the vessel’s OT/IT architecture, as designed by MOL experts, is compliant with IACS Unified Requirements (UR) E26, which aims to ensure the cyber resilience of ships.

By joining forces with BV, MOL anticipates the mandatory requirements of UR E26, which will apply to ships contracted for construction on or after January 1st, 2024. This UR stipulates that equipment manufacturers, shipyards, shipowners, and additional parties should implement appropriate cyber resilience measures during the whole lifecycle of the vessel, from the design state to construction and operations.

Bureau Veritas contributes its long-standing cyber security expertise to help the maritime industry meet the UR E26 requirements, with particular attention to shipyards, which will be the most impacted by the entry into force of this new regulation.
