The Port of Oakland, California, has received the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star award for its tenth consecutive year, marking it as the only building in the city to do so thus far.
To achieve an Energy Star award, a building must rank among the top 25% most energy efficient buildings in the market. The Port headquarters has ranked in the top 18% of EPA benchmarked facilities nationwide, showing its commitment towards environmental advocacy.
In order to achieve the award, the port has implemented several energy-saving measures such as modernised heating and air conditioning equipment that is optimised to use less energy, and new computer and printing equipment that uses less power.
Factors that affect scoring include for the award include building systems, operational hours, climate controls, equipment scheduling, and equipment monitoring.
