During the first half of 2016, and within the first few weeks of this third quarter, Cavotec has won orders for its shore power systems totaling a value of approximately EUR 11.5 million.
This third quarter started strongly for Cavotec’s AMP technologies, with an order for 16 AMP systems for six new-build 13,500 TEU container vessels having been placed.
Cavotec’s shore power Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) cable management systems connect ships to shore side electrical power.
In the first two quarters of 2016, Cavotec received orders for AMP for a diverse range of ship types including container vessels, bulk carriers (including 30 very large ore carriers (VLOC)), cruise ships, passenger ferries, offshore supply vessels, a special purpose vessel, a major naval application in the UK. They also received an order from a large container terminal in Canada.
The supply of shore power technology to players in the bulk market, especially then aforementioned project involving the VLOCs, sets a milestone in the marine shore power as demanding bulk applications is a segment that has, to date, that has tended to lag behind the container, cruise, and passenger ferry sectors when it comes to the introduction of shore power.
