A project to retrofit ships with exhaust gas cleaning systems has received approval from ClassNK and resulted in the issue of an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System Ready Full (EGCSR-F) notation.
- The notation means that EGCS to reduce sulphur oxides (SOx) from ships’ exhaust gas engines have been certified for installation.
- ClassNK confirmed that the retrofit plan was in compliance with the project requirements and issued the EGCS-F notation, meaning that the ships fulfil the requirements for the retrofit of EGCS.
- Nine sister ships operated by Mitsui O.S.K Lines were part of the project. Other companies involved in the project include Minaminippon Shipbuilding, Sanwa Dock and Wärtsilä Japan.
