ClassNK has announced an independent third-party verification of Iino Marine Service’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory.

The GHG emissions report is based on ISO 14064-1 (Specification with guidance at the organisation level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals) and quantifies the total emissions from approximately 50 managed ships as well as from the Iino Marine Service’s office. ClassNK carried out a stringent and comprehensive verification of this report to a ‘reasonable level of assurance’, which means that the emissions report was found to be accurate, complete and met all relevant criteria specified.
In addition, the ClassNK verification process and verifiers’ ability were approved by The Japan Accreditation Board (JAB), and the verification based on ISO 14065 (Requirements for greenhouse gas validation and verification bodies for use in accreditation or other forms of recognition) was confirmed.
Due to rising societal concerns for global warming an increasing number of companies openly disclose how they are tackling environmental issues and publish GHG emissions reports, allowing business evaluation by stakeholders.
In the shipping industry, more companies are now going beyond regulations such as the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and are making efforts to reduce their emissions further.
