The Clean Arctic Alliance has welcomed the passing of the European Parliament Resolution by its environment and foreign affairs committees on the call to ban heavy fuel oil in the Arctic.
- Resolution is a non-legislative document that represents the European Parliament’s position regarding the Joint Arctic Communication.
- Joint Arctic Communication guides the actions of the EU in the Arctic and future policy.
- Resolution calls on the Commission and member states to take all necessary measures to ban HFO.
- Dr Sian Prior, lead advisor to the Clean Arctic Alliance says that the Resolution sets a clear message to the IMO that European citizens want a ban on HFO in the Arctic by 2020.
