Construction has begun on the world’s first battery powered cruise ship.
- Steel cutting for Hurtigruten’s expedition ship, Roald Amundersen, has begun, ready for launch in June 2018.
- A second vessel, the Fridtjof Nansen, is due for launch a year later.
- Both ships will use electric propulsion for around 30 minutes to reduce CO2 emissions by around 20% says the company.
