Containerships secures EU funding for LNG project

Finnish Containerships has received a grant of nearly EUR 17 million from the European Union and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation to go towards its liquefied natural gas project.

  • Containerships says the grant will enable it to move forward with its strategy to establish a logistics chain based entirely on LNG.
  • EUR 10.7 million of the funding will be allocated for ship investments, and EUR 6.2 million for the development of a European LNG terminal network. NEFCO contributed EUR 5 million.
  • Company is investing in new LNG ships and a UK-based refuelling station. Wenchong Shipyard, China is currently building four LNG cargo ships for the company, scheduled for delivery by the end of 2018.
