Corvus battery system selected for multipurpose Norwegian vessel

Rolls-Royce has selected Corvus Energy to supply its energy storage system (ESS) to a Norwegian Coastal Authority hybrid vessel.

  • 3 MWh Orca ESS will be installed on the OV Ryvingen to provide the vessel with electric propulsion and meet its other electrical needs while docked.
  • Ryvingen is Norwegian Coastal Administration’s second vessel to use a combination of battery and diesel power. The vessel is used for operations in oil spill protection and maintenance of shipping lanes.
  • Vessel will have an available capacity of 2938 kWh to enable it to run on battery power for several hours. When docked, the vessel will use battery power all the time to allow the diesel engines to be switched off. Batteries will be recharged from an onshore power supply.
