Crowley Puerto Rico Services Inc., an operating line of Crowley Maritime Corporation (Crowley), has selected Eagle LNG Partners as the liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier for its new LNG-powered Commitment Class (C) ships.
The agreement between Crowley and Eagle LNG will provide LNG fuel for the new El Coqui and Taino C Class ships, which have been specifically designed to use LNG as their primary fuel, reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 38% per container.
Eagle LNG will build a natural LNG plant in Jacksonville, Florida, to support a capacity of 200,000 gallons per day. Crowley and Eagle LNG believe that this partnership is the first step in developing sustainable infrastructure to allow ships to operate efficiently and to their full capabilities.
The El Coqui and Taino, which are built in the US and will operate under the Jones Act on the US mainland to Puerto Rico trade, are due for delivery during the second and fourth quarter of 2017.
