Damen Green Solutions has signed a letter of intent with Norwegian ballast water treatment technology manufacturers TeamTec to supply and service their ballast water management system (BWMS), AVITALISTM.
The AVITALISTM BWMS uses filtration and the chemical treatment solution PERACLEAN Ocean to treat ballast water. Developed by Evonik Industries AG, PERACLEAN has a broad anti-microbial spectrum and works at low temperatures, rapidly decomposing into water, oxygen and acetic acid, which is readily biodegradable.
The BWMS is currently undergoing ship board testing for International Maritime Organization (IMO) type approval and land-based testing for United States Coast Guard (USCG) type approval. IMO type approval is expected to be granted in the first half of 2017, with USCG type approval expected the same year.
Barry Stolk, Damen Green Solutions, commented: “For Damen our priority is always the highest quality possible. TeamTec is a respected name in the marine industry with over 30 years of experience, and Evonik is a world leader in its sector. We have every confidence that the AVITALISTM ballast water treatment system has a great future ahead of it.”
The companies intend to reach a full partnership by the end of 2016.
