d’Amico Awarded ‘Green Ship-Owner Of The Year” Title

Italian owner and operator d’Amico Società di Navigazione SpA (d’Amico) has been named as the ‘2016 Green Ship-Owner Of The Year’ at the Green Ship Technology Conference, which was held in mid-March in Copenhagen.

The company picked up the award following their considerable reduction in bunker fuel consumption and resulting emissions.

The introduction of innovative technologies on their ships and their new eco-ships investment plan has seen d’Amico’s ships pass the energy efficiency international standards.

They have also created a Performance Monitoring Department, which is intended to focus on fleet performance management and continual vessel efficiency improvements. This department is said to be the first of its kind among dry and liquid bulk ship owner companies. A constant monitoring of vessels, thanks to highly advanced sensors on board which allow to track consumption and performance in real time, led to a deeper responsibility assignment of the crew on environmental issues, say d’Amico.

The company says that environmental policy and sustainable development will continue to be important pillars of their operations.

d’Amico say that a whole-fleet approach is essential.
