Denmark to axe ship registration fee

The Danish government proposes to abolish the registration fee for merchant ships wishing to register with the Danish International Ship (DIS) register.

  • The special fee on second hand ships which are registered in the DIS register will be removed, making it more attractive for shipping companies to register newly purchased second hand ships with the Danish flag.
  • This move expects to help grow the number of vessels flying the Danish flag, thereby helping the Danish economy to also grow.
  • Registration fees are an obstacle for shipping companies registering their ships and a no-registration fee can be an attraction when selecting a flag to register with.
