DNV GL is now offering a 50 per cent discount on subscriptions to its ECO Insight Environmental module due to the official establishment of the ECO Insight solution as an incentive provider for the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), a voluntary system designed to improve the environmental performance of sea going vessels.
Managed by the World Port Climate Initiative, the ESI gives a numerical representation of the environmental performance of ships regarding air pollutants and CO2. It also scores NOx and SOx emissions and gives a fixed bonus for documentation and management of energy efficiency. Currently, there are 46 incentive providers around the world, most of them are ports.
ECO Insight is DNV GL’s fleet performance management solution. It has gained considerable interest in the industry to date, attracting some 700 vessels since its launch in January 2015. It officially became an ESI incentive provider in February 2016.
According to DNV GL, the ECO Insight portal provides ESI reports and scores as an automated service, without creating additional work for the crew or onshore staff and therefore helps shipping companies to more easily participate in projects such as the ESI. They say that ECO Insight can also help companies which have not yet achieved the targets they need to receive ESI incentives.
The ECO Insight solution can also automatically produce environmental KPIs and reports on emissions or disposals and supports schemes such as, Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG), Clean Shipping Index (CSI) and the upcoming EU Monitoring, Reporting, Verification (MRV), in addition to the ESI.
