Double World First For ESL Shipping Dual-Fuel Newbuilds

Two of ESL Shipping’s newbuild bulk carriers will hold the title of being the world’s first large liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fuelled bulkers to feature dual-fuel operability in addition to being the first ships constructed to the new DNV GL rules set for general dry cargo ships.

The two 25,600 DWT ships will feature the Deltamarin B.Delta26 LNG design, with both the main and auxiliary machinery capable of operating on dual-fuel to reduce by half CO2 emissions per tonne of cargo transported.

The bulk carriers will be built to both DNV GL rules for general dry cargo ships with DNV GL Ice Class 1A and will have type C LNG tanks of approximately 400m3 capacity to enable bunkering at several terminals within the Baltic region.

The ships, which are due for delivery in early 2018, will be highly optimised for trading in the Baltic Sea region.
