DuPont has completed the first installation of its in-line, multi-engine scrubber on two newbuild bulk carriers’ auxiliary engines.
The benefit of the multi-engine scrubber design is that multiple exhaust sources can be connected to a single slim in-line scrubber tower to not only reduce the overall footprint of the scrubber, but also to minimise turbulence and exhaust back-pressure.
According to BELCO Technologies, a subsidiary of DuPont, the commissioning of the scrubber is expected in early 2017 following this first installation.
A patent application has been submitted for the system’s scrubber inlet configuration. The new design will be on display at the SMM trade show in Hamburg, Germany next week.
