The Peruvian Navy’s new Antarctic low environmental impact diesel-electric hybrid research vessel will be featuring a full suite of solutions from GE.
This includes a full electric power and propulsion system coupled with the SeaStream Dynamic Positioning (DP) and automation system.
One of the critical requirements was low underwater noise and thus GE are supplying an anti-vibration motor with the electric propulsion system to meet DNV GL’s Silent-A Class notation.
The low-voltage electric propulsion system is said to allow for reductions in fuel consumption as well as GE’s electrical solution allowing systems to stand by, again resulting in lower fuel consumption.
“GE’s expertise and ability to deliver innovative technology will help to make this research vessel among one of the most advanced in the world.
Furthermore, as this vessel will venture out into the least hospitable environment on the planet, it was important for us to choose a solution that has an excellent record of reliability,” said Guillermo Freire, general manager, of Freire Shipyard who are building the vessel.
