ESL Shipping Ltd (ESL) has signed an agreement with Sinotrans & CSC Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Sinotrans & CSC) for the construction of two energy efficient liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered bulk carriers.
The newbuild bulkers are expected to have reduced CO2 emissions per tonne of transported cargo by at least 50% and will be the first ice-class 1A bulk carrier ships in the world to be powered by LNG.
According to ESL, the ships represent the latest in technology and innovation and will help ESL meet its target of making shipping more sustainable and environmentally aware than before.
The ships are expected to enter into operation in the first half of 2018 in the Baltic Sea region.
