The UK Energy Technologies Institute has released a report detailing which three types of technologies can reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption by up to 30%.
- UK shipping fleet assessed by ETI to give the most economic technologies for fuel consumption reduction.
- “HDV Marine Insights” report was developed to show that reduction of carbon emissions by reducing fuel consumption is possible, even with continued use of fossil fuels.
- ETI intends to fund development opportunities in flettner rotors, waste heat recovery and high efficiency propulsion systems to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
- Technologies highlighted stated to have an economic payback of around two years.
- Report states that introducing new technologies is challenging, costly, and risky. ETI therefore aims to demonstrate that investors and stakeholders can have confidence in such technologies.
