The European Union has said that it is to forge stronger links with Indonesia in order to improve ocean protection and worldwide governance of oceans.
- Both the EU and Indonesia have a zero tolerance policy on illegal fishing. Indonesia recently reformed its fisheries governance to eliminate illegal fishing in its waters.
- Indonesia has also applied the EU catch certification scheme, allowing fishery products traded with the EU to be traced from fishing net to plate.
- Both are also working to launch a new EU-Indonesia working group on Climate and Environment.
