Intellian Technologies has installed GX100 terminals on 27 EUKOR Car Carrier vessels, the contract represents the industry’s first commercial installation of shipboard antennas specifically developed for Inmarsat’s next generation Fleet Xpress service.
The final vessel installation in a pre-planned EUKOR fleet schedule was completed on board Morning Cello towards the end of March 2016, with all 27 ships now benefiting from the reality of the new era of maritime broadband.
The GX100 antennas selected by EUKOR feature fully integrated satellite terminals including modem, one-touch commissioning and remote antenna control from either a PC or smartphone through Intellian’s unique Aptus software. The antennas provide robust worldwide coverage combined with fast download speeds.
Intellian users also benefit from the company’s ‘Simple. Streamlined. Smarter.’ installation process for Fleet Xpress, which involves a single, pre-wired, integrated rack mount unit, where competing products require up to five rack units, adding additional cost and complexity.
Intellian already has more than 4000 GX upgradable terminals (v100GX) in constant operation aboard ships across the world, but the company is ramping up production and installation capacity for its GX100 and GX60 antennas in line with expected demand generated by Inmarsat Fleet Xpress. Fleet Xpress is the only satellite broadband marine communications system available from a single operator with its own satellite constellations. The new service offers unrivalled broadband capability worldwide via three satellites in Inmarsat’s I-5 constellation, backed up by L-band FleetBroadband for full redundancy.
Intellian antennas, officially type-approved by Inmarsat, are the satellite terminals of choice amongst many ship-operating frontrunners as they adopt latest communications technology. Intellian already has stocks of antennas held in key distribution centres – Irvine, Rotterdam and Seoul – and systems are available in other locations around the world at short notice. The company is currently boosting its team of specially trained installation experts in preparation for a surge in sales.
Intellian’s GX series terminals were chosen over other solutions by more than 90% of the FX install base.
