As part of the Port of Rotterdam’s Sustainability Strategy, the largest solar panel system to date has been installed at the port.
Samskip, a global logistics company completed the project through subsidiary frigoCare. The project was overseen by the Port of Rotterdam Authority and Zon Exploitatie Nederland (ZEN), a Dutch renewable energy company.
Around 3,100 solar panels capable of generating 750,000kWh of electricity a year were installed on the roof of frigoCare’s 14,000 pallet-capacity cold-store in Rotterdam. The quantity of electricity produced is enough to meet the annual energy needs of 250 homes to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Europe’s largest port.
