Shipowners and operators might need to take additional temporary mitigation measures against fire prevention as a result of some COSMO manufactured fire doors that have been found faulty.
- In a statement by the Isle of Man Ship Registry, recommendations are made to increase fire watch and fire patrols, take added precautions in hot work and pay attention to good housekeeping.
- It also recommends that fire hoses should be readily available near the affected doors as there is a small increase in risk to the safety of the vessel.
- COSMO doors produced between November 2013 and July 2013 which have been type approved and certified by DNV GL, may be suffering from an insulation issue, increasing fire risk.
A test devised by COSMO may be carried out to determine if the doors fitted are suffering from the insulation issue.
