First Air Supported Vessel Hits The Water

Effect Ships International A/S has launched the world’s first Air Supported Vessel (ASV), a fast commuter ferry demonstrator in Riga, Latvia.

Making its first appearance at the Latitude Yachts / BJB LTD construction yard in Latvia, the BB Green ASV features a unique state-of-the-art hull technology that lifts 80% of the hull displacement out of the water and reduces hull and water resistance by as much as 40%.

The ASV also features a new battery electric-drive line to power itself using renewable electric energy to eliminate emissions and surpass all European Union (EU) environmental goals.  Low energy consumption and a reduction in wake wash enables the ASV to operate efficiently and at high speeds without disturbing the seabed.

Some final water adjustments are to be made, following which the vessel will undergo extensive testing, documentation, demonstrations and dissemination.  The company states that a European ‘on the water show’ will be held, where several countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium will play host to testing of the new concept.

The BB Green team will be headed by Tor Livgard and Ulf Tudem from Effect Ships International A/S.
