Foreship has released an infographic detailing ways to achieve 25% energy savings onboard a ship.
It states that propulsion and methods of improving propulsion efficiency can save up to 5% of the total energy expended, while air lubrication systems can achieve 6% fuel savings and hull optimisation 2-3%.
Waste heat recovery is able to save a small proportion of total energy, approximately 1% by using EGE optimisation or incinerator heat recovery.
On cruise ships optimising hotel aspects, such as sun deck overhang and exterior window area can significantly reduce energy as approximately 50% of this energy is consumed by hotel loads.
The company attributes maximum energy savings to technical management, maximising performance, plan and documentation updates and stability calculations to name a few.
