The IMO’s Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnership (GloMeep) project is conducting a new workshop in Hangzhou, China.
- The GloMeep project aims to increase uptake of efficiency measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.
- 10 leading pilot countries are involved in the project. Through legal, policy and institutional reforms, the countries aim to drive national government action and industry innovation to support the implementation of energy efficiency requirements set out by the IMO.
- The project also aims to enhance awareness to assist implementation of the regulations, and drive public-private partnerships to catalyse the involvement of the private sector in maritime efficiency activities in developing countries.
- This new GloMeep workshop currently taking place in China aims to ensure crew are trained to contribute to energy efficient shipping.
- The workshop “Implementation of IMO Model Course 4.05 on Energy Efficient Operation of Ships” aims to provide participants from maritime universities, shipping colleges and institutes, with an overview of the regulations on energy efficiency for shipping.
- The workshop is also focussing on providing information on the different methods available for optimising the handling of ships, managing fuel, and planning shipboard systems.
- The information provided is designed to ensure that participants have the skills and understanding of energy efficiency policies and measures to promote them in their respective countries or organisations.
- The 5-day course includes a range of interactive exercises and videos to enhance learning.
