Greek maritime IT managers connect

AMMITEC members enjoy Inmarsat Fleet Xpress Workshops
Members of the Association of Maritime Managers in Information Technology and Communications took part in an Inmarsat workshop to learn about the potential that increased satellite communication can offer connected ships.
25 AMMITEC members from Greek shipowners spent the day at the network operation centre of OTE Satellite in Nemea, West of Athens, Greece.
The IT managers had a chance to discuss issues such as  Ka band and its susceptibility to rain fade, the increased use of VoIP services through Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress, potential issues of service in “crowded” areas, antennas, and the potential of Applications platforms that Inmarsat has been promoting as it seeks increased usage of its new services.
The day ended with an evening of wine tasting at a local restaurant.
