Hamburg Süd Gets the Gold for Sustainability Efforts

Hamburg Süd has been awarded a gold rating following a survey conducted by supply chain sustainability network EcoVadis.

The evaluation was completed in July 2016 as part of EcoVadis’ work in Environment, Labour Practices & Human Rights, Fair Business Practices and Sustainable Procurement. It demonstrated that Hamburg Süd has achieved advanced sustainability management practice in the four key areas of corporate social responsibility and sustainability. The gold award is the highest level attainable.

In all four categories Hamburg Süd received an above-average rating. In the Environment category, the company set a new benchmark in the industry sector “Sea and Coastal Water Transport” with a score of 90 points.

A particularly important aspect of the EcoVadis evaluation is energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Hamburg Süd recorded significant successes in reaching its self-imposed environmental target to lower CO2e emissions by 45% by 2020. At the end of 2015, it had achieved a reduction of almost 35% compared with the 2009 baseline.
