Harvey Gulf Selects Cathelco Scrubber for Offshore Vessel

Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC has chosen to fit is a Cathelco ballast water treatment system (BWTS) to its newbuild offshore ship.

The BWTS, which will be fitted to the Harvey Stone, a multi-purpose field support vessel (MPFSV), is based on a combination of filtration and UV technology, with a capacity of 150m3/hr.  Using a UV Transmittence (UVT) sensor, the amount of UV radiation passing through the seawater can be measured accurately. This is a much more reliable method for calculating UV dose and ensuring economic power use.

In addition, the BTWS hosts an innovative cleaning system using special cleaning balls is used to remove residue from the quartz sleeves and internal surfaces of the chamber. This means that the system does not use chemicals and there are no mechanical parts to scratch the surface of the sleeves.

Cathleco’s BWTS gained International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval in May 2014 and went on to gain Alternative Management Systems (AMS) Acceptance from the US Coast Guard (USCG) a few months later.

These approvals will allow the ship to operate in marine, brackish and freshwater, including the Great Lakes and inland waterways.

The Harvey Stone has been built by Eastern Shipbuilding Group and is due for delivery in Q2 of 2016.
