Hurtigruten has signed a contract with Kleven Verft AS to build two highly efficient, low fuel consuming polar-class ships customised specifically for expedition travel and sailing the Norwegian coast.
The ships will be built at Kleven Verft, Ulsteinvik, Norway, while Rolls-Royce will design and provide equipment for the ships including a wave piercing bow that can help to improve fuel efficiency and emissions.
The first ship is due for delivery in July 2018 and the second in July 2019.
The contract also includes an option for a further two vessels.
