IMO Workshop Promotes GHG and Efficiency Measures

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has this week hosted a workshop in Johor, Malaysia to raise awareness of the organisation’s regulatory regime to deal with improving energy efficiency and controlling greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships.

The three-day event, called “the MARPOL Annex VI and Technology Transfer” workshop, was organised under IMO’s GloMEEP project and co-hosted by the Marine Department Malaysia and Johor Port Authority.  The GloMEEP project supports uptake and implementation of energy efficiency measures for shipping in developing countries. Malaysia is one of the 10 GloMEEP lead pilot countries.

The workshop included an excursion to the container terminal of the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, where participants were able to learn about the port’s energy efficiency initiatives and green policy.

Participants included representatives from Malaysian governmental departments, academia and other related bodies attended.
