Inmarsat has received IMO Sub Committee greenlight consideration for its FleetBroadband and Fleet One to undergo technical assessment for Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) standards.
- GMDSS data and messaging communications are used by mariners to increase safety in the maritime industry.
- IMO information paper has shown FleetBroadband is capable of complying with GMDSS standards, while offering enhanced safety and distress features.
- FleetBroadband will undergo technical assessment by the International Mobile Satellite Organization and a report released for consideration in 2018.
