Irish Ferries Choose to Install Scrubber on Newbuild Ferry

Irish Continental Group plc (Irish Ferries) is to install  an exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS), commonly known as a ‘scrubber’, on their newbuild EUR 144 million cruise ferry to comply with sulphur oxides (SOx) limits in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).

It will also install a ballast water management system (BWMS) to ensure compliance with the Ballast Water management Convention, once it enters into force.

German company Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesselschaf (FSG) will build the 1,885 passenger and crew ferry to the highest environmental standards to maximise efficiency and optimise fuel consumption.  It will be equipped with four main engines to deliver 33,600KW of power.

The ship is scheduled for delivery in May 2018 and is expected to sail on routes served by the chartered ship MV Epsilon, which is currently on a year round service between Dublin, Holyhead, North Wales, and France on weekends.
