The UK Chamber of Shipping’s director of policy and director of safety and environment, David Balston today stated that he believes the Ballast Water Convention, when finally ratified will be coming into force “50 years too late”.
He made the comments during a London Ballast Water Forum today (Thursday June 30, 2016), the second being held in series of three hosted by the UK Chamber of Shipping in partnership with Fathom Maritime Intelligence.
Balston also stated that the Chamber are looking for a flexible and pragmatic approach to the regulation – in other words, he said, “common sense should prevail.”
