Klüber Launches VGP-Compliant Open Gear EAL

Klüber has launched an environmentally acceptable lubricant (EAL) for open gears that is compliant with the United States Vessel General Permit (VGP).

Klüberbio LG 39-701 N is an EAL that is made from 100% renewable resources, making it highly biodegradable and ensuring a low water hazard, even in temperatures as low as -30°C.

The EAL, which is suitable for the lubrication of open drives, pinions, jacking systems, anchor handling winches, stern rollers and rudder modules, features a high-viscosity base to enable good water resistance and high pressure absorption capacity for maximum efficiency. Furthermore, the high-viscosity and excellent adhesion extends re-lubrication intervals to cut costs and reduce environmental impact.

The EAL has already been approved by some manufactures, including a leading manufacturer of spray appliances for jack-up systems, for the lubrication of support bearings for ice-resistant thrusters, and for the corrosion protection of hubs in fixed-pitch propellers.
