LNG carriers undergo retrofit to use low sulphur fuel

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine has converted 80 vessels to run permanently on low sulphur fuel in time for the 2020 global sulphur cap of 0.5%.

  • 80 liquefied natural gas carriers will undergo retrofits.
  • MHI-MME’s burner and control system developed for low sulphur marine gas oil is used on main boilers to burn fuel of varying viscosities.
  • Technology has already been applied to auxiliary boilers for all buildings.
